i've read a statistic that approximately 95% of Americans have sexual relations before marriage.

i've read another one that approximately 80% of Americans cheat on their spouses.

20% of 5% of people wait until marriage to have sex and then remain faithful for the rest of their lives - or at least until the end of their marriage.

that is some FREAKYSHIAT right there. I don't know if we can tolerate this kind of DEVIANT BEHAVIOR.

so :madfawk:, @ all the sexual "conservatives" (read: puritan boneheads) out there.

    of course you don't.

j/k i have no problem with people who don't get stuff. what's going on here is that fetishes are usually defined by what is outside the norm.

i am pointing out the hypocrisy of such a statement when the supposedly "traditional" and most "vanilla" form of a relationship + sexuality is also one of the least common.

    ya know... stuff.

actually, since I'm into anal sex and feet I would say I don't have a fetish? since that's pretty much the norm. at least compared to those monogamous wait until marriage freaks. jesus christ. they are ruining the institution of conventionalism! words are important.

I think he's just saying that, if you define a fetish as "outside the norm," that according to those statistics monogamy/waiting until your married to have sex/vanilla-ish behavior is actually "outside" of the norm, thus being a "fetish."

although that logic is flawed because that's not the actual definition of a fetish.

Ding ding ding! We have a reader.

Well. That's true......... in a sense.

It is often how fetish is identified. Or "freaky."

Well, true, it's often how people identify it, although it's an incorrect definition and thus most people are often wrong. It's a misconception :dunno:

But yeah, for the sake of this thread if that's the definition you're going by I get what you're saying.

What about someone waiting until married but with every intention of going well beyond the vanilla?

What the hell are you on about?

The fact that something is popular doesn't make it right, wrong or indifferent, it just makes it popular. Same with the fact that something is statistically atypical. The two spectrum are exclusive.

Try this: What if I said I get a fetishistic kick out of the idea that I'll only be physical with one woman in my life ;)

I would say maybe a better word for what you're saying would be "deviant," i.e. deviating from the norm

I'll tell you what the hell I am saying sir!!

    Later. Whn you are older.

    Ok now will do.

All I am saying is that I believe in doing only what it is NATURAL for people to do. None of this 'deviant behavior,' to quote alaya. Radical sexual practices should not be pushed on the normal majority. We should not have to tolerate freaks who do bizarre things like waiting until marriage to copulate and being monogamous during marriage.

I swear to God. If I posted A Modest Proposal here in plain English people would throw a fit and accuse me of murdering children.

What I was doing in this thread (and for those who already understand parody, sorry to explain, in the utmost height of poor taste, the mechanic of a joke) was taking an argument that I don't believe in and applying it in a way that illustrates its ludicrousness.

How about this, no one in here is passing judgment on anything you may or may not wish to do, so try returning the favor. If you don't understand the mindset behind a particular lifestyle choice then you can ask like an adult or search through the countless threads where its been discussed.

What you cannot do, however, is post inflammatory, judgmental blather, nonsensical statistics and then trash people who reply, all the while expecting intellectually honest replies time after time from these people.

    Stop trolling, you toolbag.

It was satirical in nature :uh: He's not judging the vanilla lifestyle, he's purposely using an argument he doesn't believe in by applying it to another situation where it sounds ridiculous. Thus, in some round about way, trying to show how ridiculous the original argument is.

I'm sure it's closer to 60%. I just heard this riff on somebody's podcast, found it hilarious, and posted it here.

Obviously, if you read the thread, I should have made the jokingness of it a bit more obvious.

I probably won't have to make it obvious next time I'm making fun of stupidity, though, now that people are prepped for this whole super-duper-complicated thing that some call "round-about" and some call "parody." It's great
