Canon feels better in had but Nikon with the feature... which one would you pick?

Getting ready to jump into a system. Thanks in advance!

This is between a 40D and a D90 by the way

At that body price point (under $1k) I'd go with Canon. I think Canon has a bigger and better selection of lenses to choose from, and the Canon lenses are usually a couple hundred bucks cheaper than the Nikon counterpart. Not to mention the fact that Nikon doesn't have nearly the selection of f4 zooms and ultrafast primes that Canon has.

If you were looking in the $2500 range for a body I'd say go with Nikon. Although the Canon 5d mkII is a great camera, I think it's lacking on many features that are found in the more well rounded (and cheaper) Nikon D700.

I guess it kinda depends on how heavily you think you will be investing in future body upgrades, lenses, etc.

I would go with the D90. Because I have one.

Honestly too me the Nikon feels better despite the magnesium body of the Canon but that's totally personal. Also I prefer the menu system of the Nikon. That being said, the features are slightly different and your end result will probably be the same unless there is a specific feature you need. I really prefer the LCD on the back of the Nikon, better viewfinder, better AF in my experience and more of my friends with 40Ds have problems than friends with D90s.

if the 40D feels better in your hands than a D90, like it does for me.. get the 40D. It doesn't matter what extra features a D90 has (video?) if you aren't going to feel comfortable using it.

D700 doesn't have video. And the Sony's have made strides, but I still don't think their even close to the high end Nikons or Canons, especially in the high ISO/noise department.

not only that, but sony's new lenses are way more limited in selection and more expensive than the nikon and canon counterparts. can the a900 use all the old minolta lenses? :o

yes they can, but not the other way around :greddy:

whats missing in the lineup? what id like to see is a flagship 50mm Zeiss prime. but they do have the cheap 50/1.4.

why? its not a good camera. limited lens choices, if you want to auofocus, viewfinder is too small to manual foucs.
