So I'm kind of at an ends trying to figure out what to do with my hair.

First, I hate the way I look with short hair, I've done that my whole life and am sick of it. I've been growing it out since February, before that it was less than an inch long on top and buzzed on the sides/back. I've had two trims in the past few months just to get stuff to similar lengths and to get some shape to it. Now I feel like I have, or will have soon, enough hair to work with finally.

My question is if you had my hair, what would you do with it? Post pictures for reference if you could, because I don't know anything by names really for hair. Below are some pictures, first couple show my whole face to give it a little reference, rest is just me trying to show all sides of it so you can get an idea of what I have to work with.

    Thanks :hsd:

    Good call.

I had originally wanted to go for shaggy hippy style hair, but I've decided against it. So far I like that.

    /waits for more suggestions.

I think you might need to grow it out more and then chop it up. right now you're in that in between stage where you're :hyper: and dunno what to do with it. either grow it out more and then chop, or cut it off. personally I think a buzzed head wouldn't look bad on you even though that's not the look you're going for. :dunno:

I've had buzzed-ish hair my whole life. I'm trying something new.

    So update or something.

Friend of mine works at a nice salon. I went in on my lunch break to see if she had some advice, but she's just a receptionist so she sent me over to the head colorist and stylist.

They said that they'd do a quick job for me for free if I wanted and would give me some advice on products/etc. So since it was free I said why not.

Got some low lights put in and a deep conditioning by the colorist, hard to tell in the pics but my hair is actually a fair amount darker than it shows. Then the stylist did some minor shaping and razor cut layering and such. It was more to give the hair better shape and more depth than just being a mop.

I got some shine/hold serum, some sculpting finisher, some spray, and some conditioner from them. Also bought a flat iron.

Here are the results I guess. I feel like it looks a lot healthier now and not just a mess. But does it look that different? Should I have gone a different route? Keep going or give up? I'm lost :hs:

    That's what I've been thinking.

Almost seems like just the color was fixed, but she did clean up a lot of edges. Hard to tell, I only know because I watched it happen.

I guess overall I'm just wondering if I should keep growing it out or give up.

Cut the sides, style it up, grow the back like a faux mullet of sorts.

    Grow the chops out too.

Would look more mature than Harry from Dumb and Dumber..

it looks like you have pretty thin hair

mess it up with some wax and finish with some hair spray to give it some volume

you need to grow the top out a bit, the back is too long for the length of the top.

Looks about the same to me.

I agree, you need to get rid of the mass in the back to balance out the thinner hair you have up front. It looks bottom heavy as it is right now.

trim the back to be shorter than the front. I think you'd look better with a buzz cut, though :hsugh:

don't think you should straighten your hair either

it'd look better a little messier/wavier/what have you

it's just too flat on top :sad2:
