Ok...I know this is outdated but I never heard about this when it happened.

I was at Borders looking over some gun books when I came across, the book, Thank God I had a Handgun
    http://www.amazon.com/Thank-God-Had...4553632?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1192935637&sr=8-1

I was reading some of it at the store and was shocked to hear that the police were actually taking guns away from law abiding citizens! There is one story of a 70 year old woman that was forceably disarmed even though she was in her house and not doing anything wrong.

    Then there was this:
"No one will be able to be armed," said Deputy Chief Warren Riley. "We are going to take all the weapons."

    WTF??

Ok....so I got to thinking about this. What would you guys do if the police and military came by and demanded your guns??

I mean it's obvious it unconstitutional but why hasn't anyone been charged with a crime??

    EDIT:

If they're just asking for them, I'd give them my lorcin and a mosin, "here are all my guns officer"

If they want to come in and search... I would not comply.

According to this story, they were taking the guns at gun point. They kept telling the woman, "We don't want to shoot you." Apparently the POs were going around rounding up these guns that were registered.

And how do you "not comply" with their search if they wanted to come in??

"guns? guns are stupid. dont you know those can kill people?!?!"

if that didnt work... id put a bullet in em. its LA right after katrina. no one would find them, or you could always feed them to the gators.

edit: if they are armed, just deny deny deny unless there is someone else who you can trust to take them out. or wait till they walk away and take them out anyways.

yes, i would shoot someone in the back and not feel bad about it.

I would not be opening my door for anyone who I'm not expecting. If someone breaks it down, they will be getting the ammo first.

The stories on those videos are really disturbing.

I don't remember anyone in the media covering the disarming...not that surprising but come on....you'd think some people would be screaming.

Moral of the story, lie to the cops?

Just so you know there's a huge lawsuit against Mayor Nagin and the city of New Orleans because of this.

    Thanks...that's good to hear.

This story prompted me to get off my ass and join the NRA. I've been thinking about joining but damn....this shit has got to stop!

It was discussed, but not in full detail until much later on, when the NRA and other groups started to raise a fuss about it.
Talk about blatant violation of the 2nd Amendment and personal rights as a whole.

Yeah see that is what's so unbelievable to me - this seems like such a blatant violation of the constitution.
I just can't understand why a law enforcement officer would think this is an acceptable policy.

    It just blows my mind.

    "What guns officer"

of course, at that point, anyone who opens their door is asking for trouble.

So what do you think would happen to you if a group of 6 cops came to your house demanded all your firearms and you opened up killing all of them? Life in prison even though they were the ones breaking the law?

If someone knocks down my door, post natural disaster/unnatural disaster, they won't be alive when they leave, even if they're wearing blue jackets with big yellow letters.

You can pick up jackets like that for $40 at a police supply store, or online.

Same reason you don't legally have to pull over for an unmarked police car.

There have been many occasions where people impersonating officers have raped, robbed, and killed people, including families, down here.

If they knocked and identified themselves (and I believed them), I'd give them a drop gun, and tell them everything else was in the safe-deposit box.

We're protected, now. Bobby Jindal (who just got elected governor) had some laws passed to prevent this from happening again.

    I don't know how I'd react.

I know they don't have a right to tell you that...but the whole issue is, when they come to get them, armed with their AR-15s and other toys, what would you do??

It's clear that they didn't care about your 2nd amendment rights....they wanted the guns and didn't care how they had to get them.

I'm getting the impression that they looked at the receipts of firearm sales as to where the guns might "live".
