Taking the wife on a Mediterranean cruise this summer. Don’t know if I should bring everything I have or scale down for the trip.

    My bag consists of:
    D80
    Nikkor 18-200 VR
    Sigma 10-20
    Nikkor 50mm 1.4
    SB-800

Don’t think I’ll need the speedlight But I’d hate to leave the 10-20 for some nice wide stuff at the pyramids, Rome, Athens, etc.

What would you bring if you had this stuff?

Yeah, the 18-200 and 10-20 sounds good.

You wont be able to shoot flash in museums and will you be out at at night in bars or something?

    Take the D80
    18-200
    10-20
    tripod

So only out the flash and the 50mm which is tiny anyways, so i'd actually take the 50mm either way.

I think this is where the 50 will be good. my 18-200 had a hell of a time in museums while i was in NYC

We are staying in Rome for three day prior to the cruise. After that, all night time stuff will be aboard the ship.

On the tripod thing, I don't really want to lug a tripod around in my backpack, think i could get away with one of those Gorilla tripods?

I was just in the Caribbean for a cruise in January, here is what i brought:

    40d
70-200 f/2.8 IS (never left the bag)
Tamrom 28-75 (used every now and then)
Canon 10-22 (was on the body practically the whole time)
    Fiesol 3442 tripod

I brought a flash and used it quite a bit to take pics of people and such.

The tripod is VERY light, and fit just fine folded up in my luggage. Didn't have a problem strapping it to my backpack either for island excusions, etc.

I've heard Europe is horrible for crime (pick pockets/ grabbing etc) I use my Oakey backpack with my crumpler 5 million dollar home inside for trips. it's a lot less conspicuous. and i always seem like a easier mark anyway as i have a prosthetic leg and alway wear shorts. didn't think a tripod would be a good idea strapped on the outside because of this :dunno:

every time i've traveled, i bring my 70-200. i dont' think i've ever used it.

    i'd bring the flash.

    forget the tripod.

wide & midrange. I always bring my 10-22, 24-70, grip, and extra batteries. that's about all i need.

tripod is a must for long exposure shots and shots of the whole family / group so you aren't always left out.

i always bring my tripod on vacation.
