    assuming you have one already.

for example, i got a new MBP C2D earlier this year. it's awesome. it's a beast. it looks new because i put invisibleshield film on it the day i got it. it's fast, good battery life, etc.

....but if they release something truly amazing today, i'll be throwing it on ebay, even though i have been burned 100 times by apple for buying Rev-A products.

so - what features/specs would you buy a new MBP for?

Larger hard drive sizes, higher resolution, decrease in price. I've got the CoreDuo MBP and it's been great, but it gets sluggish with quite a few things. Although I hear the 17" won't be updated quite yet. I'll probably wait until around Christmas or something

what do you think of this SSD stuff? the rumors are that they're going to offer larger capacity SSD's. i'd be tempted if i knew that SSD's were less likely to fail than HDD's.

They won't have SSD drive capacities that are comparable to hard drive capacities. It would be way too expensive. Look at the MacBook Air, 64 GB SSD and the laptop is $2598. If they change that to a 128, it will probably be $2598 then 256 would be much more expensive, and that's still not comparable to a 320 or higher.

I won't be upgrading no matter what. I dropped a shelf on my MBP and it has a massive dent on it :wtc: . I am afraid what it will be worth because of it so I'll be keeping it till the end :hs:

I dropped mine about 8 months ago and I had someone at the Genius Bar swap the top case and bend it back, although it's still obvious that there is damage.

w/r/t the people with dropped computers - always buy AppleCare.

i bought a Rev-A MBP at launch, and it had a lot of little annoying problems in addition to the Rev-B bullshit that apple pulled where they upgraded all the computers like 1 month after ours came out.

2 years into the applecare, my computer started to get a little wonky, so i sent it in. long story short, they gave me a brand new MBP that was substantially upgraded from my previous one.

I bought AppleCare. Once it's dropped, AppleCare isn't worth it. I pro-rated it. If something happens to the computer after dropping it, it will always be due to the dropping. If the hard drive dies 6 months after dropping it, it won't be replaced because it could have been caused by dropping it. Same for anything else.

right....but i had a nice big dent in mine from where i had dropped it, but they replaced it anyway. maybe i was lucky, but i like to think it was my genius system:

i complained about every problem (heat, inconsistent LCD, etc) at the genius bar and have them open a complaint log. most of them can't be fixed, but they are documented before you dropped it. then when something really goes wrong, and they try to blame it on the drop, you can shut them down and say it was a known issue.

might not work every time, but it has worked for me over and over with apple. i'm not trying to screw them...just trying to prevent them from gaming me on their own warranty policy.

Believe me, I've got some good connections with the Genius team. Once it was dropped the way mine was, there was no saving the AppleCare

I learned this the hard way, owning one of the first MBP's with a defective 8600M GT chip. :wtc:

it'd take a proper screen to get me to even consider a MBP.

Usually I complain about Apple's prices too, but find me a 13.3" laptop with similar specs, features and looks of the new MacBooks for cheaper and I'll grant you that complaint... otherwise, unwarranted :dunno:

:werd: it will take $1599 in my pocket to go get one today, or $2499 for the MBP. I might be getting one come xmas time. I also want a Canon EOS 5D Mark II, so I'll need an extra $2699 in my pocket to get that as well.

Sounds like I should be getting mine from Apple when I see them in Atlantic City on Sunday. Stupid update though. Nothing worth wild really. Still only 4GB of RAM which is lame.
