At work we are saving 3D models in Solidworks. Some of the guys like to work locally instead of over the network because they complain about the time it takes to save. So if we were to set up a 1gb connection from these computers to the server, would it be faster than saving to their local HD?

    Hope this question makes sense.

no, will always be faster to save to the hdd.

remember, when you save over the network you're still saving to a hdd -- just to a server instead of the desktop. And on top of that, you have the bottleneck of the network and the overhead of the stack.
