I am currently using Bluehost for my business (not my choice). For the past month, their mail server has sucked balls. Email is critical to my shit, as customer files, approvals, etc are sent.

I've contacted their tech to no avail.

I was gonna move it to HostGator but wanted to check here first. The website doesn't get much use, it's mainly email.

As far as shared goes, the only shared account I have is with an Australian company (since I am based in Australia.) but as far as dedicated server's go, I have a server at SoftLayer and RackSpace that are very very good, and have had no problems with them.

I use liquidweb for a shared site now, the control panel isn't as nice as dreamhost but the servers aren't nearly as oversold, I've tried a drupal site and an xcart site, but ran significantly better on liqudweb servers. They cost almost $20 a month for 3 sites, but you get 24/7 toll free support, i've yet to wait on hold more than a few seconds.

Only downside I've found for them so far is they insist you use a one click installer called fantastico for drupal installs, and from what I hear that unnecessarily over complicates the upgrade process...

    my two cents

Fantastico on liquidweb also allows you to update your install through it. Just lick on your install and it should have a section below the description that says if you can update it or not.. atleast my drupal install did.

If email is critical then do NOT use Godaddy. Their mail servers go down a lot. They also block a lot of important emails as spam. They don't follow all of the RFC's even though they say they do.

I'd use hostgator for shared, the bonuses are worth more then the hosting its self, and if support is a priority these people have live support which offer tech support and not just sales, like most the others do.

Anyone used mediatemple here? Trying to find a good shared hosting that supports mcrypt in php and they're one of the few I've seen that does.

Yes, they have free pop/imap and all of the other features that you'd get with a gmail.com account.
