I've been watching anime for less than a year, I started when I met this dude (Alan) that lived across the hall from me in my dorm that was into it. At first I didn't know where to start, so I went with a theme that I could relate to.

So I watched the first stage of Initial D and was hooked. I chilled on my own for a while and got the rest of the existing Initial D.

When Alan figured out that I had finished that, he let me borrow his copy of Akira. Well, I didn't understand much of it the first time that I saw it, but I still enjoyed it albeit the head-scratching. Then he sat me down one night to watch FLCL. More head-scratching ensued, but I knew that I definatly liked it. So then I started borrowing his dvd's and downloading for myself.

Edit: I used to watch DBZ back in the day, but that doesn't count ;)

I started with Akira and Ninja Scroll and Ghost in the Shell. I preferred the animated films because the thought of devoting so much time and money to a TV series scared me (this was before broadband internet, BitTorrent, and all these fansub groups). :o

Then I got bootleg DVDs of Initial D on Ebay and loved it. After that, I got into Rurouni Kenshin. Once I got used to it, like the style of comedy and drama that anime delivers, I started branching out more and more. :coolugh:

i probably became a fan of anime in 2000 when i saw tenchi, then trigun, then cowboy bebop. before that i had seen various ones like dbz and pokemon but wasnt to interested. Since then i have downloaded way to much and cant stop, well i didnt start downloading anime untill like 2 years ago.I actually havent downloaded/watched any in over a month, maybe 2.

trigun and bebop drew me in, but i only vaguely knew that these were animes. I would say that Betterman showed me just how different animes can be. It hooked me and made me want to look for more anime.

I expected more from Trigun, but I really loved Cowboy Bebop. Bebop was the first series that I ever completed. :o

Akira, but i haven't watched it since 1995. I picked it up when a guy i know had all the eps of Bleach.

Now i'm hooked for real. And my friend Sagara feeds me with new shit.

My first was Nausica. Awesome movie done by the same guy that made Princess Mononoke and Howl's Moving Castle (plus others). Also if you haven't seen it then check out Vampire Hunter D. The original not the new one. The movie kicks ass.
