What was the Timeline for CDRW?

CDRW's sucess was largely due to the popularity earlier on so prices and spec changes were quick to come, but DVD burners... can anyone tell this is still abit stagnant? I remember no more than 12 months ago the entry level model was $999, today it sits nicely and affordably at $399. I'm tempted to buy one for Xmas but really don't fancy the idea of sitting around for 30 minutes (or however excrutiating long) for 4.6GB to burn.

Prices for the blanks are still prohibitively expensive at 2.50 a pop! Atleast for me but not only that, the speed of the burner is really slow.

Whadda ya think about DVD burners and it's place in the timeline of things to come?

30mins for 4.6 gigs is bad? How long does it take to transfer that much from one harddrive to another?

Yes with certain circumvention due to their DVD copy protection. Doing also is highly illegal, blah blah blah... the Russian hacker who discovered it was arrested.
