So since there's a thread about the one image that got you interested in photography, I was wondering, for those who shoot in a specific genre or style, what was the first image you shot that made you realize that that's the type of imagery you wanted to continue to create? And what is the backstory to it if there is one.

For me, it was this image
    [IMG]

this was originally shot a a few years ago for an illustrative portraiture class assignment where we had to use "lipstick" as an inspiration and was widely open to interpretation. It was after this specific shot that i realized just the style of imagery i wanted to create. Before shooting this, i was all over the place w/ my style of shooting, this made it clear to me where i needed to go to really draw out the images my imagination creates.

So, i'd like to see/read, what was your epiphany image?

I meant more your own images, rather than outside inspiration. What was the one shot that you took that opened your eyes and made you say, "damn, this is the type of thing i should be doing"

I'd have to say this image:

I started a personal project primarily for my mom, the backstory can be read here, and more images here and here.

When I put down the gun after this 'shot' (pun intended :mamoru:) and looked at the image on the camera I knew that I loved doing high-speed photography. Unfortunately I don't have a place to do it anymore :wtc:

Oh man, scrounging through the old photobucket. I had taken photos long before this with various P&Ss and 35mm but until I took this, photography did not really drive me like it does now.

I thought you wanted to know what image made you want to take a certain type of photography. Didnt realize it was one you took.

For me, it was picking up a RacerX Illustrated or Transworld MX magazine.

I've always loved riding, and the pictures in there are awesome.

    It just clicked

It all began as a way to catalog moments of my friends and I tearing out motors and trying to stay out of trouble during my teenage years. Then I didn't really pick up a camera for several years.

edit: From 2005 with some P&S. Later on, it was one of the pictures that made me want to pick up a camera again.

After I took this one of my dog, I realized that I like shooting dramatic light, really dark images more than anything else. I really struggle when I try to shoot high key or anything with flat light. But using shadows and hard light seem to come naturally for me...
