My buddy is having his going away party. Just graduated college and is going active. I want to get him something but I don't know what. Any ideas? Its this friday so its going to need to be something I can pick up locally.

A watch is a good idea. What is your price range?

And do you know what his job will be in the Army?

Price range is flexible. I just want to get him something useful. Maybe try and keepit around 50? Gerber is a nice idea. As far as what he will be doing.. excuse my laymans description but I think he will be working with the FOB calling in strikes. Hope that makes sense.

If he's already in the reserves or whatever, then a gerber will be fine. They're great tools, but I won't carry one based on the stigma (lifer tool). And yeah, a TACTICAL watch is good (IE: nylon band/g-shock). But my personal favorite is a SUREFIRE FLASHLIGHT. Best invention ever. I'll PMCS a vehicle at 2am with one and have no problems.

I carry 2 Gerbers and I don't plan on being a lifer:nono: But yea, a good tac light goes a long way....especially if it has an interchangable red lense filter. I have seen them here at the PX, they have a Gerber Pro Scout that comes with a little Maglite and a case that holds both of them.....FTW!

I always had a Gerber with me when I was in. I was in the Engineering Dept on a sub, way too many times you needed something while hanging in an awkward position in the engine room and either couldn't get out or couldn't wait. They are way to versatile to let someone tell you that they mean you're going to be a lifer. I loved mine and used it all the time.
