I'm going on a ride along tomorrow with the LA county sheriff's dept., which I am currently in the backgrounds process with.

Question is, what would be useful to bring along with me?

So far, I've got a notebook and a pen, and a Surefire E2DL. Going to leave me EDC folder in the car.

Do they allow cameras or cell phones etc? What items are strictly prohibited?

    Same question for jail tour.

    Like dem West Baltimore niggas.

  6. Really, a flashlight is useful if the shift spans time that it's dark outside. Other than that, don't worry too much about bringing stuff, just enjoy it and see where the day takes you. I have a feeling based on my experiences that if you bring lots of stuff it's all going to sit in the car anyways.

    They let you carry?

    Cops here would flip shit.

  10. The official policy is no carrying, but I was doing the ride along with my best friend, and he told me if anything happened he wanted me to be able to save his ass.

A flashlight will be useful ANY hour of the day.

Cell phone and charger, $$$ for food, notepad, pens, knife or multitool, camera (probably better if you don't mention you have this and only take it out when they'd be happy to have the evidence)

If the cop wants you to be able to access any sort of defensive weapons, he'll let you know. Probably not going to happen until you build up a good relationship with them.

Bring cash if you are eating on the road you don't want to be without money. Maybe buy the officer dinner.

Cash is important in case you are in a restaurant and get a call and need to split right away.

Paramedics often pay as they order things and get to go boxes served with their food.

    Try Seattle. :)

My dad was a paramedic there for the majority of his career. They went out to dinner fairly regularly.

Fuck I bumped the thread in OT

What is the outcome of this? Since now I see you made like 2 threads here and 3 threads in OT, probably a few more scattered throughout

Out here cops generally get free meals or half off meals. It isued to be that whoever they were with got free meals as well, but with the economy most places are if you aren't in uniform, you don't get a deal.
