we arm the mexican military and the military lets those weapons slip into the hands of cartels. Thus we arm the cartels, not the corrupt military.

well, I would say we do simply because we consume the drug cartel's products in vast numbers. combined with the reality that we keep said products illegal here thus providing the recipe for the current situation.

I doubt the cnn poll meant to have anything to do with guns. although it wouldn't surprise me if that was the intent of the poll and people still overwhelmingly vote yes. because in fact the general population probably thinks guns are a major cause of this, and are of course retarded, as discussed and reaffirmed here many times a day.

If we'd finally secure the damn border we'd been in a much better position on this side.
Do I think we are to blame or share the blame? No.
The corrupt Mexican government and military are to blame for the weapons crisis, not the United States.

if there was no demand for their products, there would be no weapons crisis.

I find that a weak argument. There will always be a demand for anything illegal... same thing with gun bans.
People will still buy them, even if illegal.

We need to fortify and guard that border. We've been talking about it for years, now it needs to happen.
I'm not giving up my rights to own a certain type of gun just because other people, especially from a different country, can't secure their border.
    That's not my fault.

Mexico needs to crack down on police officers and soldiers from the military that defect and bring arms with them... that's how the cartels are getting weapons. Not from Mexicans in America breaking into homes and stealing guns. Certainly that is happening, but I don't think the scale is quite as large as they say it is. There's more coming from the military and police agencies that we have legitimately armed. You can't blame that on us.

Without the huge US market place for illegal drugs, these cartels wouldn't exist. I don't think it has anything to do w/ guns though.

Of course you guys do; Canada does as well. As long as we keep on buying their drugs the cartels will still exist.

Dot. I hate friggin' druggies and the idea of coke or something being legal is not a pleasant one to me, but OTOH it would really take the wind out of the cartels' sails. :hsd:

I think it's funny that a ton of people say "we've lost the war on drugs, just give up and make it lega" but now that it's killing poor mexicans (like they thought no one was dying alread in the business?) it's a huge deal and most likely the fault of guns. WTF?

Anyway, yeah, I think "we" as a nation of individuals are at fault, we being the people using the product. I don't think our gov't or our laws are at fault so I don't see how changing any of those will help. I really can't fathom a genuine connection to our gun rights so I see any supposed "link" to be an attack on our rights. But then CNN wouldn't have anything to do with that...

Go you. I don't do drugs either, but that doesn't change the fact that the cartels in Mexico get a lot of business from people in our countries.

Fucking bullshit media, the crime down here is nothing compared to the states, right now there are 2 cartels offing each other with a third getting in the mix, and it's in 2 border towns, TJ and Juarez. Who gives a shit let them kill each other.
