So after Christmas I picked up an 8gig SDHC card so that i could start shooting raw and messing around with pp. I took maybe five pictures so far and when i put it into the computer to import them to Lightroom I'm getting a device failure error. The images were raw so I tried again with jpg images, still no luck. The camera can read the card but the computer can't. The card has been formatted.

Can it be because the card reader on the computer isn't SDHC compatible? Would a card read fix that? If not I'll just bring the memory card back to the store.

Older card readers aren't SDHC compatible so that may be it.

Camera, from my understanding thats always the better way to format.

I think that may be the problem. The card reader is built into the computer itself and i got the computer almost 6 or 7 years ago.

leave the card in the camera and connect the camera to your computer to import.

If this works, then you know the issue is your card reader.

Good idea, and if it works I won't need to buy a seperate card reader.
