I was hired on as the "Network Specialist" for the company I work for. Since I was hired I was faced with lots of things I was not originally hired for. Now I am in charge of ALL networking support/installation/security, managing cisco routers/switches and a complete active directory network. All hardware/software support, web development, graphic design, programming, and I am on call 24/7 for any issues that may arise. The company I work for owns 5 companies in 3 different cities and im in charge of all of that in all of the cities. Not to mention, anything technical that has a problem they want me to fix it (printers/faxes, etc.).

What would you say I should ask for my Title to be changed to when I request my new salary?

edit: forgot to mention, i am in charge of our networked phone system as well. So i have to install and manage all of the phones as well. VoIP. I also have to do all cabling for data and voice.

I'd call myself happy to have such an important job. Smells like job security to me. I think Director of Information Systems sounds nice. :)

edit: anything with a Senior in front of it reads nicely as well...

There's only job security if your boss's:

    a) aren't stupid and run the company into the ground
    b) understand how integral you are to the company.

Yea. Job security is nice. However, pay blows. I'm hourly @ 15/hr, $20/week to carry the nextel around and be "on-call", and I usually work 60-70hrs a week.

I know what I'm doing is worth ALOT more then that. I salary.com'd "Director of Information Systems" for my area and it said $105k-$115k :wtc: (and i make $38-39k)

I don't know but I'd certainly be careful how you request it. Keep it low. Maybe instead of requesting a particular salary you could explain slowly to your boss exactly what you do there and then request a raise of an unspecified amount. Sometimes they just don't think about how much you do compared to what you're payed until you bring it up. You may not get as much as you want this time but you never know. And besides, things could be worse. You could be the proud owner of a worthless cs degree working at Sprint for less than $20k a year.

That's true. I just don't want to get screwed over. They tend to like to do that to people.

I think you'll be fine if you just ask for a raise. Depends alot on your relationship with your boss though. You never know, it might wake them up and provoke them into giving you exactly what you want. Just be clear on exactly what you provide to this company, and that they'd be in a lot of shit if you weren't there. The trick is making this not sound like a threat, which is why the type of relationship you have with your boss is important.
