I'm gung-ho about getting a convertible right now. I had one not too long ago and liked the vert part, but the car sucked. After having a Z4 roadster for a day I must have another vert. Whatever I get has to be RWD V8, but doesn't have to be a vert.

So far I have been kicking around the following...

    88-95 Mustang 5.0 Convertible
99+ LS1 Trans Am Convertible (Not so sure because I really hate the interior. I had an LT1 f-body for 3 years)

I don't know what else I should add to my list. I'd be looking to keep it at $10k or less.

Interior on the LS1 cars is vastly superior to the LT1 cars. You really have to get in one and drive it to appreciate it. Only problem is that LS1 T/A 'verts are a bitch to find, at least in my area. May want to include Camaros in that search.

You could also include a BMW Z3 in that price range, they've been getting down there in terms of price. Not "American" muscle, but hell, they were made in Spartanburg, so who really cares. ;)

I have and it's not "vastly superior"

    It's still a rattle trap. :o

The replacement car would be my new toy. The Z3 isnt exactly mod friendly. :ugh2:

Miata with turbo or supercharger. 150hp to the wheels in such a light car is fun. You can get even more with a turbo. Enough to scare the bejesus out of a 5.0 driver.
    RX7 turbo. 'nuff said

you are kinda limiting yourself with the has to be a V8 requirement. You could probably find an E36 M3 convertible. Lots of fun to be had there.
You could always do a V8 swap into a Z car although I don't think I've ever seen a convertible.

As far as verts go, I'm a big fan of Miata's, if you're really crazy you can cram a small block V8 into it, although you will mess up the great balance the car is known for.

Really there aren't many options in the US vert market, hopefully the Solstice will change that though.

in my opinion trans am are damn uncompfortable to ride in. i vote for another droptop GT or if you can fund it Cobra Mustang. if you can fund a 03/04 Cobra that is the only way to go. if not get a GT droptop.

You see it as limiting myself I see it as buying what I enjoy driving.

I'm really wanting a Miata for my next car. It's going to have at least a turbo.

I still need to find a good/trustworthy shop in the area to do the work though. :o

And a rotary would be hot but I wonder if maint would rape me, especially it being a custom car...
