So I'm getting my bike soon and I'm shopping around for insurance, but not exactly sure what I need and what's recommended...

    so here are my basics:
Bike will have an alarm/bike cover/chain + lock
private covered parking at apartment complex
    2008 Ninja 250R
    New rider/first bike
    MSF course completed
Age 27: have been driving a car for 11 years (legally at least)

Here is what I put down to get an insurance quote...

    Model Year: 2008
    Make: KAWASAKI
    Model: EX250J8F NINJA 250R
    Engine Size (CC's): 248
    Accessory Package: 500

    Coverage Information:
    Bodily Injury Liability: 15000/30000
    Property Damage Liability: 5000
    UM/UIM Bodily Injury: 15000/30000
    Comprehensive: 500 Deductible
    Collision: 500 Deductible
    Medical Payments: 1000

should I have other stuff? am I missing anything? should I raise/lower amounts?
going to use it mostly for commuting to/from work (17 miles each way), and maybe weekend rides when the girly gets her bike...

    :hs:

PLPD + uninsured motorist only. I pay less than 500 a year for two bikes and only 1 ticket on my record (speeding in a car).

You'd be getting rid of everything else to make it cheaper. I could get full coverage, but it's a rip off (unless you crash). Knock on wood: for the four years I've been riding, I haven't dropped them, wrecked them, or had to file any sort of insurance claim. Just my opinion... if you have the money... hell, if *I* had the money, I'd probably have full coverage.

Also, from the "mostly commuting to/from work thing," expect a fair amount of close calls. Typical commuters have a lot going on in the car. Factor in where the sun is on the horizon and the blindness that causes, and how everyone is in a hurry and too asshole-ish to use a signal (let alone check their mirrors)...

    btw> first upgrade I do on any bike I get is a louder horn! It's a 13 dollar life-saver.

Get more liability coverage than that.

Talked to an insurance company that's been recommended by another motorcycle forum and crunched some numbers and stuff...
I'll be signing up for 100/300/100 for a pretty good price :)
