Looking for a .308 with optics. Already have a FAL

Been debating between a chinese m1a and an ar10. Also open to anything else in that price range. (800-1300 w/o optics)

What do you guys think and why?

Why would you want a gun made in China?

Because most receivers available today other than LBR are cast and not forged, norinco and polytech m1a are made from solid forgings. And other than the soft bolt material some had, they're actually quite nice.

I picked up a polytech not too long ago for a ridiculous price, sent it out to a smith to get a forged bolt, utinized the gas system it, national match sights put on it as well as a trigger job and probably paid half of what it would have cost me if I bought the baseline one from springfield.

i used to be in the lifting industry and did batch testing for chinese made lifting fittings - hooks, hammerloks, head rings etc. from the same 'batch' of alloy steel, you'd get some snapping just after Working Load Limit, and then you'd get fittings that would go 6 or 7 times work load limit before destruction, when the standard is 4x WLL.

Moral of the story is the chinese are hit and miss with their products. you might get something that lasts forever, then again it might disintegrate on the way home from the store. be warned.

M1A, SA make a good one.

AR-10's are prone to jamming I heard.

I have a DS FAL so that is what I would recommend first but, like you said, you already have one.

    I have a Norinco 1911.

The thing is super solid, some shops will only take in a few brands of 1911's to work on, norinco is one of them. My gun is solid, no pot metal bullshit.
