What Should I be eating? v. Female

    I am 5'9'', 134lbs. I'm looking for a diet that isn't as drastic as Pur's diet in the sticky. I don't want to be a body builder, but I do want to drop my body fat down and gain muscle/tone up. To do so do I have to do that drastic of a diet?? What would be an ideal diet and exercise plan for someone like me?

    I currently go to the gym (not nearly enough) about 2-3 days a week. Usually 30 minutes high intensity cardio with my heart rate 175-200 (I am 20 years old). Then I just go around dilly dallying on all of the various machines doing a few sets on each of them. 90% of the time after my workout I hit up the subway and get a 6'' turkey breast on whole wheat with onions, lettuce, provolone and southwest sauce.


    Also, My brother drinks some kind of protein shake before and after the gym. Should I invest in some protein powders and do the same?

    where is an example of what I would eat in a day:
    breakfast:
    light and fit yogurt
    1.5 cups oatmeal

    lunch:
    progesso Italian veggie soup
    fiber one bar
    Odwala protein monster drink

    dinner:
    Subway 6'' turkey breast on wheat with cheese/sauce/onion/lettuce
    gatorade

    maaaaaaybe some sherbert later in the night... :o

    Check out kiri's log in the training log section.

    She bought a book called the New Rules of Lifting for Women and it would probably be a good investment for you.

    I told my sister about it and she bought it as well.

    It has workouts listed for you with different phases with a total of 7 phases.

    I'm pretty sure it also gives you diet information.

    srs answer: the same thing a dude would eat but less. A balance of lean meats, quality fats and complex carbs.

    to bad her diet sucks and needs more meat/protein. Stop attempting to give out advice on subjects you have no experience with.




    OP: add some eggs for breakfast and some sort of meat at lunch along with dropping the soup in favor of fresh veggies. Also, if you eat meat at lunch you can probably drop the odwalla protein drink unless you really like it. I'd save it for after working out. Dinner is decent.

    I'd say you're not really eating enough for how much you work out.

    Your breakfast is ok, but light and fit is just dairy with some artifical flavors...not the best choice. A protein fruit smoothie in the morning would be better for on the go...or better yet would be some eggs and lean meat.

    Lunch isn't enough imo and those soup bowls have too much salt and little nutrition. The Subway is ok...but not every night. Don't you ever cook.

    Check out the New Rules of Weightlifting like the other poster said...great book. You're pretty thin already so you can probably easily gain some muscle and look good, but if you aren't eating enough you'll probabyl just lose weight.

    Like tuna for lunch w/ veggies?

    So I should buy some protein powder for shakes?
    What kind?

    Do I drink a shake before and after my workout? Should I eat dinner then workout then drink a shake?

    don't eat before you work out...eat afterwards. So workout, then drink shake, then eat dinner. I use Optimun Nutrition protein powder...but I know a lot of people don't anymore because it got expensive...dunno what the new hottness is. I use a blender mug thing to shake up the shakes. You can do water or milk in it...and if you want it as a snack you can always blend it with ice, fruits, plain yogurt, flaxseed, oatmeal, etc.

    Need body pics so I can recommend diet, some foods target certain areas, so one shot from front, and one shot from the back

    Look cupcake, you only think that way because when they DO cut down, they ARE more muscular than you.

    Lean chicks are awesome.
