What would you choose and why?

I fired a friends Savage something-or-other chambered in .300 Win Mag and I really liked it.

I thought to poll you guys before I made a purchase.

i don't have any experience shooting at that range, but a factor that would go into the decision and for those people who have experience, is what exactly you plan to be shooting at I mean at 600m a paper target is much different than a bear.

sounds like the most logical answer to me:dunno:

would you get the 308 in bolt action or m1a?

Good point, which I should have specified. 600m would be at paper targets. From what I have researched; If I were to get a .300 Win Mag rifle, I could probably hunt some fairly large game at 400ish meters still.

I was looking at that too, but price is a minor concern for now. I'm also going to be buying a AR-15, and another rifle would be the secondary purchase to use at the longer range. The .338 Lapua rifles are quite a bit more expensive than the Remmy 700 posted above. Also the ammo is more expensive. I saw Winchester brand .300 Win Mag for $40~ for a box of 20, and the cheapest I saw .338 Lapua for was $80~ for a box of 20.

Its ballistics are better than a 50 cal. Thus its the ideal round for that range.

Personally I want the Remmy 700 with the 5r barrel. Its DEAD accurate to 700m
