for backup purposes, you know if the original gets damaged...legal ;)

anyways, i use dvd decrypter version 3.5.4.0 to rip it to a folder or an iso
then i use dvd shrink 3.2 to shrink it down to fit on a 4.7 gb dvdr and i cut out the crap i don't want

what concerns me is that neither of these programs are being updated anymore, i guess because of legal action.

i read somewhere that Anydvd combined with clonedvd will work well. also i read something about using vlc...

maybe they haven't been updated because there is nothing to update?

i use dvd shrink 3.2 and use nero to burn the image, i've never had a problem backing up any dvd i wanted.

Correct... DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are not being updated anymore because of legal action.

There are other programs that can be used, but for the most part it's preference.

forums.afterdawn.com is a good site for that kind of stuff.

    :werd: I'm with the noob.

Very occasionally i'll run into a DVD where i cant do it... but its like 2 or 3 out of the 150+ DVDs i've copied throughout the years. I havent done any in a long time.

I like to decrypt/rip using dvdbackup on the commandline, then run DVDShrink under WINE to do the shrinking. ISO it up, burn with your favorite burning utility (xcdroast, for example).
