I have 27 gigs of music, which is an everclimbing number. Here's what I've come up with. I want to use the player for car rides (I have an aux in), rides on the bus to class, and passively working out. Nothing major.

    Ipod
Pros: It's an Ipod, and they're cool.
Cons: Expensive, Short battery life, no WMA reading.
20 gigs for $270 after student discount.

    Dell DJ
Pros: Looks cool, small, scroll wheel. Can use the IRiver remote. 16 hour battery life.
Cons: Not enough storage, Musicmatch jukebox sucks dick.
20 gigs for $237 until Wednesday.

    Creative Nomad Zen
Pros: Cheap enough so I can get all my music on there, with 10 gigs to spare. Looks OK, Long battery life. Good program for using to transfer files.
Cons: A little big, headphone jack iffy?
40 gigs for $230 shipped from NewEgg.

    IRiver
Pros: Plays everything, FM tuner, sweet ass remote.
    Cons: Cost. Cost.
    20 Gigs for $280.

What am I missing? Did I skip something, should I look into another, can anyone give me some advice?

My friend likes his Dell DJ. I want an iPod, though.

Pro: Records, plays ogg wma, smaller then the iPod, looks sexy.
Con: Cost, no screen on player, only on remote.
    $300

It's pretty much a iRiver with different skin.

    Rio Karma
Pros: 5 band equalizer, on-the-go playlists, 20 gigs of music, half the size of iPod, but somewhat thicker, Long battery life (15 hours). Good program for using to transfer files. 3-second crossfade! Probably the best MP3 out there.....
Cons: Has to be reset once in a blue moon due to freezes. Other than that this player ROCKS.
    20 gigs for $260.

I own one. If you need assistance, there is an rio dedicated forum i could give you the link when you decide. Rio engineers are there for your help.

The new 4th gen iPod has been released.. the only major difference is about 4 more hours of battery life (correct if im mistaken). So, if you want an iPod now, my advice is to get the 4th generation version.

I'm trying to decide between an iPod and Zen myself. The Zen has alot more storage but I'll probably just get an iPod though.

I have the iRiver and my gf has an iPod. If you're someone that likes to have more control over the way your music is organized, go with the iRiver. Not to mention all the features built into the iRiver that have to be added on to the other players.

If you're all about looking slick, get the iPod. My iRiver never sees daylight, because I use the remote exclusively.

You know this itrip concept isn't new, right? You can buy FM transmitter for any player. Hell I had one like 10 years ago for my discman. And for the money, you get more memory and features for less money with iRiver, so I dunno what you're talking about in terms of money.
