i'm building a new system and want a monitor that will give me accurate colors out of the box?

Is that even possible or does every monitor needs calibration?

i use a dell 2405fpw, and have a shitty generic 17" as a secondary monitor that i keep my photoshop palettes on and chat on while i work.

Pretty much all monitors need to be calibrated for photo editing/graphics work. Most consumer monitors are set up from the factory for optimal document and webpage viewing, which has a much cooler white point than you would want for photo editing.

I've actually been wondering the same thing.

I'm going to be building a work station for my PP and printing, getting a MacPro.

Wondering if there is truly any advantage to getting the Cinema Screens if I am going to have to calibrate them anyway. I KNOW they look very nice, but if I can get a couple of Samsungs instead, it would save me a great deal of money.

Going to be getting hardware color calibrator no matter what. Just curious what the deal is on a Samsung vs. the Apple Cinema's.

there is no advantage to the cinema screen. They just happen to be what work orders with our Mac Pro's.

They both use the same Samsung LCD panels. HardOCP did a nice comparison between Apple's and Dell's. While the Dell had more input options (components) the Apple had a much better build quality concerning light leaks and coating.

Only reason I went with mine was because I was getting a discount through a friend who worked for Apple and it matched my G5 nicely. :)
