what makes you decide to cut?

    i'm sure a lot of people do it starting off when they're overweight, but i'm referring to people that are coming off a bulking cycle. do you have a preset weight that you want to reach before you start cutting? go by appearance alone?

    last night i was playing tennis and i was getting ready to receive a serve and as i jumped up i felt my love handles bounce :drool:. that's what made me decide it was time to start cutting. started bulking about 2 months ago and went from 180 to 210 or so (212.5 on the scale before bed last night, but i'm sure i was somewhere around 207 this morning). i figure i'll cut for a couple months and then start bulking again.

    i didn't go about bulking the right way this time around. when i first started bulking i ate everything in sight. the problem was that most of the calories were from dogshit like cookies and poptarts. i still ate a lot of chicken, but i didn't get enough calories from actual food. i also didn't take into account the fact that i used to be fat and it wouldn't take much for me to gain weight. next time i'll up my calories by a little bit at a time and try to eat cleaner than i did this time around. i'm not saying i'm going to clean bulk, but i'm going to try to get most of my calories from real food sources, even if it's mcdonalds double cheesburgers

    Cliffs: do you have a preset weight that you want to reach before you start cutting? go by appearance alone? when do you decide is the right time to cut?

    how long do you bulk for and how long do you cut for?

    I just never had to, always stayed lean enough not to care.

    This winter i'm going to bulk to 230 and maintain that for while then cut down to about 220.

    I plan on cutting down to 220-230 depending on how I look, then bulk up to 250-260 or so.

    I decided to just bulk for 3 and a half months or so because thats about the timeline of the hockey offseason. Then I'll cut until i'm about 9% however long that will take and I'll reevaluate at that time and decide whether I want to bulk again or just maintain.

    Pretty good, its just going slowly because I'm doing it the right way instead of crash dieting and burning up all my mass. I havn't lost any strength.

    fuck yeah man. definitely not pulling a pokesteve. how are you doing it? a few hundred under maintenance with cardio and the same routine you were on before?

    I just eat cleanly and cut a bunch of shit out of my diet, I'm not sure where my calories are at. Cardio every day and lift heavy as fuck.

    what kind of cardio and for how long? i can't stand running so i'm thinking about doing some faster paced walking/incline walking and see how that works out.

    I mix it up between the elliptical, treadmill, and occaisonally the ergo rower. 30-40 minutes each day.

    when do you do it in relation to lifting? i don't wanna my lifts going down and i also don't want to negate my gains from doing cardio right before or right after
