Ive been looking for a local tattoo artist for my next piece but while looking through their galleries, the pictures of the work seem subpar. I feel like the picture doesnt represent the actual work based on that ive seen from this particular shop. in person they look great! but when i go to other website galleries, the work looks absolutely phenomenal and it makes me wonder how if their work is that much more detailed or is somesort of photoshop manipulation involved...

    for example (local shop)

Someone posted a link to another shop...

Notice the detail and how the color pops in the second one.

I say this because i have had one tattoo touched up twice and i dont want to have to go through the bs of getting my new one touched up again.

I am black/korean so i understand that color doesnt hold well for my skin tone but i have noticed some people with the same skin tone with colored tats that retain color even to this day.

could this be a quality of ink issue?

thanks... pics of my tats to come.

Could be the ink, or that in the second pic the tattoo is fresh.

do you mean lighting when they took the picture/photoshop touch ups of the picture or do you mean something caused by the tattoo itself? If it's the tattoo, then probably the pigments being used.

The 1st picture is of a fully healed, un-moisturized tattoo. That 2nd pic looks to be a fairly recent moisturized tattoo. Many pictures shown on artists sites are either freshly done or right after scabs fall off when the pigment hasn't fully "set" into the skin.

As for pigment quality... doesn't matter if they're using $10 pigment or $100 pigment, if they don't know what they're doing then it won't matter.

The second pic is a brand new tattoo. No ones shit looks like that a week or two later. Both pics are decent artists.

If your artist is good he'll do the colors a couple times so it really looks bright.

I have yellow that's 8years old and as bright as the day I got it. A "good" artist doesn't need to do at tattoo twice to get it right.

The second one (Fire Cracker) was done by the artist that's doing my tattoo. Kat (aka F14HellKat, aka The Artful Dodger).
