28-75 is a great lens, especially for indoor use because of the 2.8. Might not be wide enough because of the crop, but has good IQ

28mm as the widest end on a crop body? Talk about terrible...

So what would you suggest by the way?

There are a lot of options... it really just depends what you are after. The sigma 18-50 is supposed to be really good... But I don't know if I'd buy anything but Tokina or Canon...

    Tamron 17-50 f/2.8

You said indoors, so f/2.8 + wide and it's <$400

tamron 17-50 2.8, tokina 16-50 2.8, or sigma 18-50 2.8 MACRO. These are all great starter lenses.

what he said. i went with the tamron 28-75 and while the lens performed great, i HATED having 28 as my widest with a crop body. sold it and went with the 17-50 and much happier with it, both on the wide end and it seems to focus noticeably faster :dunno:
