My girlfriend has a generic, huge screen, costco HP laptop that she got durring the summer and has finally come to hate it. She want's to get a new laptop under a thousand dollars that's not too big (no 17" screens), and that has a lot of bang for it's buck. She also want''s it to be "pretty" but I told her that she should probably look for performacne first. But pretty would be a bonus. I was looking around but does anybody have any suggestions? She going to be using it in college next year so maybe something she can bring to class too.

What does she need to be able to do with it?

    *edit*

Missed the last line some how...I just picked up a Dell Mini9 netbook for taking notes in class, writing papers when I'm not at home, and for internet sometimes. I like it a lot, I adjusted very easily to the smaller keyboard and I have large sausage like fingers. It's not something you'd use for watching movies, photoshop, or anything like that but that's what a desktop is for anyways.

What besides maybe taking it to school will she be using it for?

Watching movies, looking at pictures, basic computer stuff. She's thinking about getting a netbook. She says she might use it for porn on the go...

+1 on the Lenovo. I have a W500 and love it. I dont think it would pass the pretty test.

I have a lenovo which I love. I'm a huge fan. I think I can convince her to stencil something onto the top of it with spray paint or something. It's what I did.
