In particular, a SBR or suppressor. Just curious, I'm guessing pleading ignorance doesn't get you very far

 It's $200, Jesus Christ. It's not a down payment on a house. Don't go out to dinner and a movie 3 or 4 times and you just payed for the stamp.

10 years in Federal Pound-Me-In-the-Ass Prison, and a possible $10,000 fine.

    I'd pay the $200.

FUCK no. I had no idea what the penalties are, I'm glad to see they're pretty harsh

I'll have no problem paying the $200 for the SBR and probably at some point another $200 for a suppressor :o

It's not the $200 they give a shit about. Its the lack of back ground check/permission/info tracking they care about.

Damn, think about how much money $200 was back in 1934. Adjusted, it was about equal to a $5500 tax in today's dollars.

I can't imagine what the federal governments purpose for that tax was.

One of the loopholes that's never been changed.

$200 back in 1934 was sometimes 20x the cost of the firearm or suppressor. It was designed to make it prohibitively expensive. Luckily they haven't updated the tax costs.

I wish they would just change it then. If there were no NFA fees for SBRs and suppressors I would definately be more willing to experiment. The only thing that would be marginally useful for a criminal is an SBR since it would be more concealable but if that was really their motive then gangsters would be toting pistol AR/AKs but they're still out there shooting lorcins and .32 revolvers. The only thing suppressors would do is save the hearing of the shooter and bystanders, it's not like it makes them totally silent.

Well, they WERE the only ones that would have been able to afford it.

If you're lucky, it's 10 years. They also have the option of shooting your wife, your son, your dog, or any other member of your family they feel like. Also burning down your house seems like a popular option as well.

Don't worry. With Hope'n Change in charge, it's going to eventually happen.

How else is he going to pay for his Newer Deal?

I can't imagine the govt makes even 100k in a year from NFA tax stamps. :dunno: The cost is just an inconvenience.

so 500 a year, that is 42 a month, between 10 agents that is 4 a month, it takes them 5 days to process a single application
