i'm going to buy either a glock 17 or 19 soon, and i want a safe to keep it in at home so that visitors can't fuck with it. but, i also want to have quick access to the weapon in home defense situations. can wmd give me some recommendations/suggestions?

Do you want a "safe" or a lockbox? I bought a GunVault GV2000C-DLX and have no major complaints. The interior courtesy light is frakking useless. In the pic it looks like it lights up everything but the light is a dinky $.01 amber LED that makes a 2" spot. The front of the case is larger than the rear so it's not a perfect rectangle. On the other hand, it is what it's supposed to do and the programming is pretty simple. It comes with two keys and an AC/DC jack. The standard model is $90 and $115 at my local shop. For what they cost I dont see anything better. It fits 9 boxes of ammo, my gun, and extra mag. Let me know if you have any questions.

There is one reported problem that I know about but others have been generally happy.

I will be getting one of these for bedside pistol storage in the future. I'm sure it's not the most fortified safe in the world, but it's quick/easy to access should I need it, and hard for anyone else to get into.

i want something that will keep people from being able to handle the weapon, but allow me quick access when needed. i realize that with a smaller safe or whatever, a thief could just pick up the whole thing and take it. the purpose of what i'm looking for right now is not to keep the weapon from being stolen per se (i think that would be trusted to a larger safe type of thing), but to keep it near my bed or wherever so that i can get at it, but if i have friends over they can't just pick the weapon up and start messing with it.

i'm not sure i like the idea of something that needs power. what happens when the power goes out? i guess if it could still be opened manually that would be a decent backup, but losing full functionality without power is kind of a bummer.

Sounds like you want a lockbox, not a safe.

For me I keep guns in my safe, and a couple are located in strategic areas throughout my home, and my parents home.

Chances are, if someone broke in to rape me or whatever I could grab a gun in less than five seconds or so depending on where I was....

I can access mine within a few seconds because I programed it for 6 keys.

I've got a single pistol gunvault. I only use it when kids are over here though.

    lockbox with key and punchcode

You can get small pistol safes that are pretty nice, but they're way more expensive.
