I've been getting Rice A Roni type rice...tastes awesome, but there is a lot of sodium...Is there a better kind? Would it help to only put half of the seasoning for half the sodium content? Thanks

    Brown Rice.

I give it a couple sprays of fat-free butter, salt, pepper, and eat.

Yeah, Jasmine is great as well.... Just not as good for you.

Jasmine rice with some teriyaki salmon is amazing.

so how do you guys cook your brown rice.

I bought a cheap rice cooker and white rice comes out awesome but brown rice never comes out right.

You know, I can't cook brown rice either. My jasmine rice always come out like perfection just on the stovetop, but it seems like the brown rice never absorbs all the water, even if I cook it longer than it says to.

Since brown rice has not been processed it still has a lot of its original parts intact and it takes much longer for it to absorb water and you sometimes have to add more water during the cooking process.

If you want a bad ass whole grain then eat Quinoa (pronounced keen-wa). It is considered a "super food". One cup contains about 12-18% protein and is very high in amino acidsand is gluten free. The Incans held this grain in high regard because it has a natural ability to increase lung capacity.

just cook it till the water goes away. dont mess with the times on the package.

shit I don't even know how long mine says to cook - nor do I look at the clock when I start. I just cook it by eye. That's right, I'm God.

You might be using too much water. Brown rice does take a good bit longer to cook than normal white rice or jasmine rice. A cup of brown rice generally = 2 cups water and 35min of cook time.

Also, if you are salting the water, stop. It slows the cooking process and slows the absorbtion of water by the rice.

Yeah, I put in whatever the amount was and it says to cook for 30 minutes. Didn't add butter or salt, but never absorbed so I just gave up.
