I really want to take nice portrait photos w/ a good bokeh. I currently have a Nikon 18-200VR but it can't blur the background unless i zoom in on the face all the way in to 200mm manual mode. i want a full body shot w/ good bokeh.

i was thinking about getting the 18-50mm Sigma F 2.8 but i wanted to run by other people first and see if I am buying the correct lens for the job.

i want my pics to look like this

get a lens with a large aperture, like a good nikkor prime.

if you want good bokeh, the 50mm 1.4 is good. I've never owned it, but I do have a 1.8 that's wonderful.

you should be able to get good results with the lens you have. the blured background in the images you linked are caused by background seperation and focal length more than good bokeh.

    try a little experiment.

use these settings (for example).... f/4 w/ focal length of 100mm

take a person, or object and set it 2ft away from a wall, snap a shot... then take and move it 10ft away from the wall and snap the shot again using the same f/stop.
