I want something simple that I can use. I am considering getting a set of free weights and an adjustable bench. Would that be a good choice or should I consider one of those home gym systems?

That should give you a rough estimate on how much the lower end of the range will cost

I picked up a bench, squat rack and lat tower (called the powerhouse 9 built by Marcy) from Dick's sporting goods for $200 a little over month ago. I already had weights and bars.

So far it's worked great for me.
