what kind of cables do i need?

    i want to hook up my notebook to my television so that the video and audio on the computer come through the tv. what do i need to buy?

    A lot depends on the connectors that your notebook has. But even if it has svhs out, you won't get the greatest pic on a tv.
    And then the audio depends on what kind of inputs that your tv has.
    Assuming monitor connectors, you just need a 1/8th male plug to a pair of rca male outs.

    if your laptop has vga out or dvi out, you are in luck. i recommend vga because sometimes resolutions can get funky with dvi (or dvi to hdmi cord) especially if you have a 720p hdtv that has a native resolution of 1366x768

    if you only have svideo out on the laptop, it's going to look pretty fuzzy. they sell usb to vga adapters i believe

    I use dvi from my macbook pro to my samsung TV, the video card recognizes the TV's 1280x720 resolution just fine.

    I saw tv, and didn't think we were talking about something with a vga or dvi connector.
