Or some application that's out now that really sucks and you wish was better?

A friend and i are trying to get ideas of Cocoa apps we can write and are drawing a blank on anything unique.

So go ahead and post what program or idea you wish they had for a mac :x:

Maybe there is one and I just don't know about it, but a lightweight directory sync app would be nice. Since I've got a ton of HDD space in my PC desktop I use that for most of my storage, but there are certain shared directories that I keep synced between my PC and PB. An app that would sync certain directories to certain directories (whole shares and directories in shares) and would do it at set intervals (say 1 directory every week and this directory every day, etc.).

that's a possibility... it might be a little out of our skill set at the moment though :o

we're just starting to learn how to use XCode to make Cocoa Apps with Objective-c.

Anyone else have some more suggestions? We'll consider anything and everything :noes:

All they could do is recreate VPC.

Once Apple is all x86 they could do something like Wine, but that's a huge undertaking.

make something that would display like front row... but better
actually dont design it at all like front row becuz apple would sue
make a home theatre app that would play any type of video file/dvd.. make it work thru VLC
make an audio part work thru a simple audio app that shows pictures of all the albums and allows you to click them and view the whole album... a cd cover jukebox of sorts
scrap the pic viewing cuz its not really needed then sell and profit
message me if you want anymore ideas

program for grabbing dvd stills. VLC doesnt work for me, always throws an error, and plugins for dvd player give little control over advancing frame by frame.

This thread is about aps that you wish they made, not about apps they already make.

You should be able to run wine on intel macs with few changes. For games you'll need a powerful system and a fast opengl accelerated card with feature-complete driver. Directx calls are wrapped via opengl.

I think i'm going to start out making a banking program. I know a few of these already exist, but it should really help me learn objective-c so I can make even better apps :noes:

if you're just learning cocoa, don't go on some grand undertaking. work at it with small stuff for a while--there's a lot of great stuff in there that you'll be wishing you knew if you ever find that great idea (i.e. coredata, bindings, etc).

I wish I could copy more than one thing to the clipbpaord at a time and then had a list of the different things that I saved to choose from when I wanted to paste soemthing.

How about a calendar (widget or desktop) that lets me pick 12 images to add as the top photo portion?

A lot of car clubs would like that as some put out calendars featuring members cars.
