I've been doing incline dumbbell presses and moving up in weight steadily, until I hit 70lb. I could do 65x4 but I couldn't push 70lb up at all. One week later, I went back and tried to do it again. No dice. I tried lifting 70lb 3 times, getting more and more pissed, until the 4th time when I asked if the guy next to me can just help me lift it. It went up 4 times with ease.

Now hopefully next week, 70lb will go up without a problem, but what about 75lb? I feel guilty asking someone for help. Like I'm cheating. btw, I can lift 80lb on flat db without a problem.

are you having problem with getting the DB to your chest and getting the FIRST rep?

or are you just not able to press the DB at all because you aren't strong enough?

There's no point in having someone give you "help" if you can't get the weight up in the first place.

move down in weight and ask for a spot when you need it for the last rep or two

unless you're maxxing out (which shouldn't be your goal since you're pressing 65 lb DBs) you shouldn't have someone helping you on every rep

Yah I see guys all the time that get the DB up and can't press them and need someone to give them a spot. Once they get them up they seem to be able to do it okay, they just don't go very deep.

I don't understand how this is the case, I'm strongest right off my chest and I phizzle out near the end.

I think it's because they DB press all the time with bad form and don't have good speed off the chest. I think they should lower the weight and do it right.

I have no street cred though, that's just my opinion.

try working on your drive out of the bottom with slightly lower weights (going deep, stopping and then driving up).\

negative work can also help (while it seems counter intuitive)

somehow my belief is justified by the fact that without that spotter, the weight could possibly come smashing into my body

Should be no big deal asking for a spot. We've all spotted and been spotted. If I'm alone, I'll ask for spots. I'll also gladdly spot for someone if I'm in between sets. Just don't freaking touch the bar unless it's clear that I'm having problems getting up the last rep!

there's nothing wrong with asking someone to get them up for you on the 1st try. i like to do it when i lift heavy so it doesn't take all my energy.

Not being harsh, but not "believing" in getting a spot is fucking stupid. You WILL get hurt one day with that mentality, trust me

just ask someone to help you.

i'll usually ask the bigger guys/gym rats who know what they're doing.
