I can db bench 80lb dbs for 5, but can only bb bench 170x5... shouldn't there be more of a difference between the two? =/

BB bench is one of those things that requires you to do it consistently to build decent numbers on it.

Either way, you're fine. Just keep doing both and after some times the DB bench will stall out a bit and the BB bench will keep picking up momentum.

I consider this normal grip for me, hands an inch out from the smooth part of the bar.

    BB: 3x8 265

DB: Sets of 13-15 @ 100. The gym on my ship only has up to 100's.

If you are db pressing 160lbs fro the same number of reps you're barbell pressing 170 lbs, I am willing to wager a significant amount of money that your db bench form is very much a partial range of motion.

Yes there should be a difference.

I rarely go over the 105 lb db's, as my gym has the rubber coated 110's through 120 lbs, and they're more like telephone poles than dumbbells. Last I tried I did a few sets of 20 on incline with the 105's, my raw bench is somewhere north of 455 now.

According to Dorian Yates it's a worthless, shit exercise. Not that it necessarily means anything.
