That's a cropped image, here's a link to the full size:

I tried out all of my lenses and it gives the same "stringy" dust in the same location. When I look through the viewfinder, I can see a speck of something to the bottom right of the center autofocus point.

So what is this and what do I have to clean? The mirror, focus screen or sensor? Or is this a scratch of some sort? I have no idea what this is but I'm assuming if I can see it through the viewfinder and it's in my pictures then it's either on the focus screen or mirror, but then again I am probably wrong. Help me out.

clean the sensor. if you can see anything in the viewfinder that means the mirror (or viewfinder) is dirty too, but won't show the sensor's dirt

theres lot of way of doing it yourself, but they can all be harmful is not done properly. You can always send it out for service, but its pricey

I had the same problem. Just get a blower and blow the dust off. I am not sure how it works on the XT. But on the D70, you just take off the lens and go through the menu to flip the mirror up. Then blow the dust off and put the mirror back down.

My husband had the same problem with one of his lens's. It wasn't the camera because we got the same little mark on 2 different cameras but using the same lens. If we used a different lens on either camera there would be no mark. So we brought the lens back to where we bought it and they cleaned it for us. Aparently we were not cleaning it right or something. The mark now doesn't show up.

So if you try the above suggestions and its still there, look to having the lens cleaned or bring it back where you bought it from.
