    I've never been in a GP in person and I was looking at buying one and noticed this thing. What's it for?

    I gotta say I'm not impressed by the lack of a Tiptronic option on that shifter. It doesn't cost a hell of a lot to install three extra switches to let the driver control the transmission themselves. It comes in really handy in traffic.

    Not so much. It's not an issue of engine power, it's an issue of sometimes you're forced to speed up and slow down over and over again (let's say between 10mph and 20mph) and there's just no reason for the transmission to keep shifting between gears under those conditions.

    I'm curious as to what you think the "1" "2" and "3" positions do?

    They limit the highest gear that can be used. Tiptronic prevents the transmission from shifting AT ALL, except to prevent stalling and redlining.

    So what you're telling me is that if you leave it in 2 and stay between 10-20 mph, it's going to shift back and fourth between 1 and 2? And that this is bad for the trans?

    Why not just buy a car with a 6spd if you are worried about that Tiptronic crap. My parent's TSX has it and its terrible, pathetic excuse for a "manual" transmission.

    You do realise that the torque converter is what prevents it from stalling correct. So once again, it will shift back to first gear even if it is "locked" into 2nd gear, it limits the "highest" gear the trans can use, isn't that the same damn thing as the "1" "2" and "3" positions except it allows for the "cool" push up/down or whatever you want to call it shifting, instead of moving the shift lever.

    Just drop the trans into 2 and it won't shift into 3rd but if it gets slow enough to drop to 1st. Hey, why not just get a GXP with the V8 and not give a rats ass?
