I'm just wondering what the absolute best job to ever get into in the Navy is? As you all know I am goin in and I'm still looking at the different jobs. I'm just trying to see what others who have been in think. Let me know!

There is no right answer to that question but if I was to guess I would say whatever job gives you personal satisfaction.

What rates are you looking at? Give me a list and I can run down the job descriptions for you.

Like I said in your previous thread, there are quite a few rates that work on aircraft, not a single aviation mechanic rate. Quick synopsis of them:

    AM - Structural/hydraulic systems
    AE - Electrician
    AT - Avionics tech
AME - Ejection seats, environmental controls
    AO - Ordnance
    AD - Power plants (engines)

These are the rates that are "hands on" with aircraft every day, if you're in an O-level environment. Like engines? Go AD. Like banging on shit with a hammer? Go AM. Like picking up and/or carrying heavy shit? Go AO. etc...etc... There is no "ultimate" job anywhere, it comes down to what you enjoy doing.

If you want the ultimate easy job, pick Supply, SH or SK.. one of their main jobs is stocking a fucking vending machine and they can't even do that, without any repercussions. I'm just jealous their job is so easy and ridiculous. On the other hand when they get out the only job they can get is a manager of a 711 or Wawa, so that makes my job (GSE) seem that much better to me. :)

I was in the "older" Navy before they did a lot of rate combining/eliminating and such so the rates I use might be different than the ones used now.

If you like hands on getting dirty non aircraft then DC, HT or MM would be good. DC(Damage control) are the fire fighters, flood controllers and take care of emergencies except for medical ones.

HT (Hull Techs) are the plumbers and welders. If you can get into the weld shop you will do good in the Civillian world.

MM(Machinist Mate) take care of the main engines and support shit on old steam ships, run the Aux Spaces making fresh water and running air compressors, operating and maintaining SSTGs (Superheated Steam Turbine Generator) generators run off steam basically, run the A-Gang which is steam plumbing for the galleys and fix the air conditioning. And other things that I can't recall from being a civvy for over 10 years now.

some of the MM shit is very restricted in the jobs in the civillian sector meaning you would be working at hospital and other government sites running the boilers and support shit.

My dad and me were both BT(Boiler Tech) which is all but gone and was combined with MM right after I got out. He worked at a hospital running the power plant for 30 years.

Well of course they spend more time maintaining versus using otherwise you'd have a really fucked up ship if you were going to real GQ's a few times a day :) Unless in a war situation you'll always have the flying squad as first responders which are DCs, and if shit really hit the fan I don't think a lot of people on board ships could handle things blowing up and fires raging in places. Lack of training ftw.
