Cheap? Light? "Good enough" in a gun fight?
I guess it would be good if you had to kill small critters, but there's no way in hell I'd trust it to end a gunfight.
good enough to kill with and small enough to hunt with.
and light, of course.
cheap doesn't matter imo.
It's one of the best rounds for zombies. low recoil allows for quick follow up shots.
And well placed headshots with hollow point 22lr will do a pretty good job of destroying the brain.
this along with a minimal report when compared to other rifles
Birds/Squirrel/Rabbit are MUCH easier to clean with one small hole compared to a large hole/full of shot
I don't subscribe to the idea but the other reasoning I've seen put forward is barter since rifles chambered in .22LR are touted as the most commonly owned firearm in America.
better than nothing
b/c i love my .22 AR
It's cheap. It can be used for hunting small game. It's easily silenced. It can be used to kill humans if push came to shove.
i mean, i guess it would be better shooting 22LR for small game to eat compared to using your .223 which you woul duse for defense
if absolutely necessary, 22LR out of an AR (if you can shoot well enough) can still do what needs to be done
With my AR-22, 10/22, Kimber 1911 .22, and a .22 pocket pistol, the .22lr is a versatile round that could serve a number of purposes. Sure it wouldn't be the first choice for a defensive gunfight, but I'd grab the 10/22 or AR22 for getting some small game before I'd break out one of the Rem700s.
For right now (non SHTF scenario), it's cheap and allows me to shoot a variety of weapons.
I went to 4 wal-marts and one bass pro shop today. No .22lr to be found
game, fending off varmints or rogue pets, short range sniping. In a SHTF situation, a .22 in the neck's going to kill just fine and not draw too much attention from the zombies.
Taking small game animals.
1st line of discouragement to conserve the rifle ammo for when its really needed.
50,000rds of 5.56 won't last long if you have to use it every day for years.
I'd rather a .22lr as apposed to fists, knives, or crowbars
Small game and in a pinch, it will do for defense.
i got a bunch of 22lr cause i shoot the shit out of my .22 rifles. fun to shoot, cheap, why not
lets say 5 mags a day. so 4500rds a month for 9 months. There better be alot of dead people around!
It goes bang. That is sometimes enough to save your ass in certain situations.
What? I picked a random number to illustrate how what may seem like lot sitting in one place isn't really if you are using it up and most of what you'd be using it for could probably be handled just as well by a .22 at 1/nth the cost.
At 25rds a day, 50,000rds would last you roughly 5 years. If you can substitute .22 for 20 of those 25rds, you win.
