What function does that serve exactly? It can't be just to look cool.

that's an M4 cut barrel, to mount a grenade launcher. but pretty much just for looks for an AR15, since you can't really get M203s.

There are a few transferable 203's around, plus theres always the 37mm versions which are totally legal to own.

My local dealer sells real M203 grenade launchers, it's just the only catch is you can't buy grenades or anything for them, but you CAN buy flares, smoke things, etc. to shoot out of it.

I can't remember the price but they were pretty cheap, only a few hundred at the most, mabye $250 or so? :dunno:

Actually I think you can get grenades for them but besides the price of them $200 DD tax stamp each.
    the 37mm m203's go for $199, real m203 are 40mm.

I think the ones my dealer had were 37mm.

I'd love to get it, but I don't want to be "THAT GUY" at the range, know what I mean?

If memory serves, none of them do.. it's a handguard/rail system, on the 16 at least.

I <3 M203s. I can put a 40mm grenade up your left nostril with one.

There are plenty of 203's out there. Colt, LMT, and at least one other company still makes them for sale. You can find old recievers that will take 37mm and 40mm tubes, but they're hard to find. There's lots of crazy stuff out there.

Anyways, it'd suck to have to pay that much for the damn thing, (LMT is the cheapest right now), the $200 tax stamp, plus $200 for each round, and then having to notify ATF when you 'splode one so they can mark off the fact that you just destroyed a destructive device.

Do you have to get the $200 tax stamp and whatnot if you buy one and shoot flares out of it?

the 40mm one I'm not sure if you need the tax stamp for but if your just using it for flares, get the 37mm no tax stamp, they also sell crap that you can load your own flares and crap. I've toyed with the idea of getting one but its just to tacticool for me. :o

it's an AR you have to keep it clean. besides AR's are pricey toys I try to keep mine is as nice shape as possible I dont mind banging around a $300 AK, but when you have $700+ into an AR your less likely to toss it around.
