Picked up 40 rounds of it for 30 bucks today. Older stock from a local gun store. Plan on using it as a carry round in my Steyr M9A-1.

Jamtastic in my gun. Otherwise, solid round.

I carry 185grn GDHP +P .45 in my 1911. Shoot great, no jams, more manageable than 230s

Like any hollowpoint, you have to run a couple boxes through to make sure your gun will feed them

The general concensus is that if you're going with 124gr you need the extra pressure for penetration. If you want to stay with standard pressure, most will recommend moving to a 147gr.

I personally shoot much better with the 147gr vs 124gr +P so that's what I carry (Speed Gold Dots as well :)).

I was told to stay away from the 147 subsonic loads as they don't quite do the job.

I've heard that the 147's penetrate better because of their higher mass, which is why the 124's have to compensate with higher velocity.

Fuck if I know though. Everyone will have a different opinion on this matter. Use whatever feeds best in your gun and whatever you're most accurate with. :wavey:

Edit: How old are these Gold Dots? I don't know when they switched, but the current ones have the bullet core bonded to the jacket, making them more reliable in expansion and weight retention.

 THAT M&P sackrider? Lol, good one. They are many M&P owners on OT.
And yes, it's my M&P that the GD's don't feed well in. Those are the only rounds that won't feed worth a damn.
Everything else feeds just fine. And I mean everything. :dunno:

I think they were always bonded. It looks the same as the ones I have in .45 and .38.

I heard....I heard....I heard..... Sorry too funny above.

If your gun feeds them good and shoots to point of aim, then you're good to go. I shoot 124 +p's out of my 9mm's, but that's mainly because I can get 50 rd boxes semi-locally for $20-25.

Any "top class" JHP will do the job, shot placement rules over all.

Gold Dot is good stuff. Standard pressure will do just fine. As long as it feeds in your pistol, you'll be good to go.

standard pressure 124 seem to me to make more sense if you shoot standard pressure ball practice ammo. There are two popular schools of though.
    1. Go by what you HEARD somebody else say that he read from a magazine written by some guy paid by said ammo manufacturer to claim its the flavor of the month worlds deadliest ammo. Shoot one mags worth and then never shoot it again because it's fucking expensive and only for self defense. Heck if you shot them your not even sure if you could buy more because it's hard to get.
    2. Get several brands of ammo that are readily avaliable both defensive ammo and practice ammo. Find a pair that has similar recoil and point of impact. Make sure both feed out of your gun. Then buy a good supply of each and practice with it.

Well for those shooting the hot defensive ammo the speer lawman stuff is a pretty decent match for practice ammo. The fiocchi is pretty hot practice ammo too.

Really though lets be honest. Most of you guys are mostly shooting WWB standard velocity stuff or some sort of gun show reload like miwall (light target load). There really isn't nothing wrong with a standard velocity 115gr modern defensive JHP.

I forgot to mention the Fiocchi, it did seem pretty hot out of HossB7's Sig and his Kahr.

But I'm right there with you on the rest.

Good defensive ammo, in 9mm, .40, .45, whatever normal pistol caliber you choose, is going to get the job done well enough, regardless of whether it's standard pressure or +P, or even +P+.

I thought about that last night after a while. I will wait until I can run a box through the gun.
