Picking one up this weekend, working on negotiations now. Does anyone know or can find the dealer cost on one of these? What's the dealer hold-back as well.

    Thanks! :eek3:

New? Go to edmunds.com. Just worry about the invoice price and any manufacturer rebates. It is very very very unlikely that the dealer will be willing to part with any bit of the holdback.

Holdback on that car is going to be in the $2-300 range, IIRC - and you won't see any of that anyway, don't even bother. You should shoot for invoice, and settle for a couple hundred over invoice.

If I sucked at life I'd plan on paying over invoice. I have NEVER and will NEVER pay over invoice for any car, no matter what car it is. If I wanted to flush money down the toilet I'd go to the bathroom and do it myself.

Then I guess you're never planning on buying a premium market car. Good luck paying invoice on an M3 or something.

For a $17,000 car, that's probably not unreasonable.

Don't you work for a mazda dealership? All I'm asking for is information. I'm not asking whether or not anyone thinks I can negotiate to the price that I'm shooting for, just for dealer cost on the car. I could care less what market this car is in, point is every Austin dealership has at least 20 of these cars on their lot ready to go, some negotiations will be made. Not to mention my negotiations start at invoice on the Ford S-plan. If anyone knows the dealer cost of these cars I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know.

What makes you think I work at a Mazda dealership? I don't. I was just trying to give you general advice. Dealer cost on a car is pretty confidential, but you can kind of glean it from the invoice price less any public manufacturer rebates/incentives, but to get any private rebates/incentives from the dealer is very difficult, and a dealer would be LOATHE to part with that. I'd aim for invoice and that should be about as good a deal as you can get... maybe even 100-300 below, if you're willing to work for it.

2 weeks ago I had Subaru at 800 below invoice on a 2004 WRX. It can be done and I put in the work to get there. This isn't my first time at the rodeo. I had dealerships sending me their dealer invoice sheets which state plain as day the dealer cost on the car. I wasn't asking for advice to begin with, I was asking for a specific number that may be readily available to other people than me at this point.

I mistook you for axlerod sorry :eek3:

Axlerod, what is dealer cost in CA?
