im 19 and i grew up riding my bike literally everyday until i was about 16. i now want to drop some fat that has accumlated since i stopped biking and playing hockey consistently...aka freshmen 15/beer gut haha.

i hate running....but i love skating/biking. would hitting the exercise bikes in my schools gym...either the traditional stance or the ones where you sit down low and the pedals are in front of you be more beneficial than running on the treadmill?

I personally don't think there is that much of a difference (performance wise), but thats me.. However, I believe they work different muscle groups? But I may be wrong..

I enjoy the ellipitical instead of the treadmill, and according to the 'computer', I do more for myself on the elliptical vs the treadmill (apparently burned 600+ calories on the elliptical tonight in an hour)

I can't take the impact on my knees with the treadmill or outdoor running.. :hsd:..

Well, the main concern is how many calories you burn totally more than how many you burn in half an hour. If you can bike longer, do it. To keep your metabolism high too, you better do something everyday and that's why doing something you like comes in handy.

Agreed. If you enjoy biking for 2 hrs, why not?

this is what ill probably end up doing.

does anyone have a rough estimate on calories burned in the same amount of time during running and biking?

If you like biking then maybe you should take a spinning class. That's supposed to burn a ridiculous amount of calories.

Do whichever one you like. If you're not running for a particular point, like racing, or you don't like it, do something else. Easy as that.
