My GeForce 7600GS has something called an HSI chipset, and it has a separate little heatsink for that chip. What does this thing do -- translate between PCI-Express protocol and AGP protocol, or something of the sort?

Interesting. I wonder why the AGP version of my card would outperform the PCI-E version, if in fact everything passing through the slot has to be translated first. I mean, hardware is crazy fast compared to software, but I'd think there would be some kind of performance penalty.
