I keep seeing posts on various boards like people are spending so much on ammo that they have lifetimes supply of ammo or mulitiple lifetimes worth of ammo.

What exactly should be an average amount of ammo that someone could use?

I'm not referring to the guys that shoot 5k of ammo a month on cowboy shooting or IDPA or other competitive shooters but everyone else.

I'm looking for the average amount of lifetime ammo supply excluding the extreme low end, such as 5 rounds a year for a hunter and the high end extreme.

    19,231 rounds

  4. If you're one of the bafrcom Internet commandos it's about 1,000 rounds.

LOL.. Stupid in a way, yes. But what is an average shooters lifetime supply of ammo?

    1000 rounds? 10000 rounds? 1000000?

Are you seriously asking this, and even more you can't do the math yourself?

All a person really needs is one well placed shot.

    What math?

I don't know how much ammo everyone owns.

I have my supply and I figure its a good 20 years worth of ammo. But what I have maybe considered tiny compared to what someone else owns?

  10. Really. That's just abuse. ARs belong in the safe, not on the range.

Well, back when I could afford to shoot, I was on track to go through about 14k rounds per year, mixed pistol/rifle. So....:dunno:

I'd venture to say it's probably quite low if you were to poll EVERY gun owner.

Well seeing I don't consider myself a very avid shooter I will probably shoot about 3,000 rounds shooting trap each year. I am 22 so if I live to be 62 and shoot for 40 more years that would be 120,000 rounds even half that would be 60,000 rounds.

I'd say 3k rounds a year makes you a fairly avid shooter.

For just an average non-shooter, 10 rounds per day. :dunno:

That would be 3650 rounds a year I bet maybe 5% of the gun owning population shoots that much

That is going out twice a month and shooting 5 rounds of trap. That isn't that much, its not like I'm at the range all the time. It helps that I was 20 min away from the gun club.

Even still, I know quite a few gun owners who probably don't even shoot 300 rounds a year.

On the other end of the spectrum, I know a guy who shoots 3,000 rounds a month (on his own, no competitions).

I don't really think there is one... The more ammo I have the more I shoot.

I guess this comes down to what is a shooter and what is a gun owner. Like people that collect cars or people who actually drive them or that sort of thing. Yea my friends uncle has like 70 guns from god knows when and where but barley ever shoots to im there a collection.

if you shoot 100 rounds per session, and you go a couple times a month. thats about 2400 a year........times that by however long you planning on being alive

    i'm 24, if i shoot until i'm 75, that's rougly 122,400 rounds

but that's just for one caliber, what if you have multiple caliber

I imagine that IS the actual average gun owner. I'd be surprised if a few thousand pistol and 500 rifle rounds wouldn't last the average gun owner a life time.
