She has a compact .22 already. Has shot a .40 but it was way to much for her.

She is pretty good, but has weak wrists and is smaller in size.

Something like a .32 or 9mm ... I think she eventually wants to get a CHL

Take her to the range and let her shoot as many guns as possible.

There is not a range around here that will let you do that. It's just shoot what you brought ....

A good training class or some 1 on 1 time with an instructor would be my advice. Children can shoot .40 (and even the mythical .45) handguns without problem, she just needs to be taught how to shoot properly and it usually works out better if the teacher is someone other than a boyfriend/husband.

Since this is seldom the advice people follow though I would also remind you that the smaller and lighter the gun, the more recoil will be felt. Smaller guns like .380s are often blowback operated and can feel like they have more recoil than larger locked breech calibers like 9mm.

Thats a kid on this 9th birthday shooting a .45, low at how little his body moves with each shot.

I used to think the S&W 642 was possibly the best choice but I don't recommend that as my first choice after firing one... :dunno:

I'm not a fan of the trigger and I shot horribly with it... I think a subcompact semi-auto might be better, especially with recoil reduction.

I've never understood why people think its the gun for women. Its hard to grip, the trigger is heavy and has a long pull, there are virtually no sights, the recoil sucks. Its a very difficult gun to shoot well, in fact I doubt many of them shoot them well themselves. Not that such things matter on the internets of course :big grin:

The 638, 442, 642 are great guns because...

    A. They are light
    B. They are easy to use! You don't forget to chamber a round!
    C. It will shoot through your pocket or purse
    D. Most shooting happen in "close quarters" and most CCW situation require little to no aiming.
    E. Trigger is HEAVY and less likely to have a ND/AD

Yeah but put a .38SPL 642 etc. in the hands of a woman who has only shot a .22 and a .40 was "way too much" and chances are you're gonna scare her shitless.

Even though it appears to be a lot of sackriding on the G19. Seriously, let her try it out. My partner loves it.

It's a great gun. If the girl likes it more power to her. Glock 19 is still a pretty hefty gun. If we are talking about purse guns I still stand by the j-frame as being the most reliable and easiest to handle.

a proper holster and training is the way to avoid nd's, a heavy trigger just leads to accuracy problems for most shooters in a gun that is already hard to shoot
So what size groups do you get from an airweight with +p rounds rapid fire?
