This is something that has always interested me. Where do you find your inspiration for a particular design? How long did you think of it before you did it? How did you know you were sure enough to commit to it? <Insert miscellaneous question here>?

I am definitely on the search for something, but I am so particular that I am finding inspiration to be difficult.

90% of my tattoos were just drawings I liked. Only a few actually have any meaning or inspiration behind them.

    hahaha

I don't think I could ever do the minutes thing unless there was some sort of bond to it (a group thing, a death, etc)

I am 31 and have wanted one since I was 18 but have been completely afraid to because I feel so little inspiration towards anything in particular

I don't want to end up with something that has no meaning or that I later regret

Like I said, most of mine don't have meaning. Contrary to OT's beliefs a tattoo does NOT have to have meaning.

i agree with that, actually, as long as it is done well, fits in with your style and personality, and is tasteful (relative standard)

yeah as long as you choose something that in your heart you like, you will never go wrong.

i start with a theme, (my arm is science fiction based, my torso is to do with my friends and family) and then the ideas seem to flow from there

I have a feeling people's first (and or 1st few)tattoo will have more meaning because it is a new and permanent step. After you have gotten past the permanence issue you are more free to get work done with less meaning.

I like pulling from things in my life and things i feel for in my tattoos, but I also like the idea of having art for art's sake on my body.

My first was on a whim. 18, friend wanted one but not alone. I got some Japanese kanji done on my arm. Funny thing is that it has more meaning to me today than it did when i got it done. I have an idea for my next piece. I just need the money since its gona be big.

I actually just came across mine and thought it would be a great idea for a tattoo. I had 2 pictures of a similar item blended and really liked the way my artist drew it.

What inspired my tattoo was partially due to some of my interests in life, my heritage, and just the fact that I thought the tattoo would look great.
