I really don't get it, I am searching through the site?

Does anyone have it, how much does it cost.

    Is it worth getting?

basically an online sync/homepage thing. you can sync your calendar, addressbook and a couple other things with a click of a button. you can also use it as an easy way to make a home page, share photo's and all that...

worth it? i don't think so, just get yourself some cheap online space and a gmail account with gcalendar and call it a day. you don't get much online storage or bandwidth for the money.

I have it and its nice to have but im sure there is something cheaper out there. You don't get a horrible amount of bandwidth but I post my photos on many different forums and have never gone over my allotted amount. I like it mostly for the sake of storing and sharing photos and files without having to use FTP.

I refuse to get it on general principle. I'm still bitter that Jobs presented it as free for life, then made it pay service, so I was forced to pick between giving up my main email address or pay $100/yr. I TOOK A STAND!!!!! :mamoru:

.Mac is pretty cool if you want to have your bookmarks/addressbook with you at all times. The iDisk is also really nifty for getting files around or sharing with friends.

I'm lucky enough to get a free account every year via Apple Sales Web. :d

I use it quite a bit for moving Garageband tracks back and forth between my friend and I. Plus I use iWeb and that integrates really well into it. I also used to use it between machines to have everything in sync, worked really well.

I use it to keep important documents on, as it's password controlled and backed up.

By default, 1Gig of space to share between iDisk and Mail.

    Dunno about bandwidth.

REALLY bad, actually. Get a dreamhost account and you get 100x that for around the same price :mamoru: And 40+GB storage.

But is there an OS integrated way to backup files to it that is quicker than webdav? Webdav is so slow its pathetic.

It's the full integration that it offers that is really useful. Most people don't know or can't be bothered to learn how to use DreamHost. I sell Macs for a living, most people don't know how to use their systems, DreamHost and FTP'ing is beyond most people's scope.

Its not sad. Integration is great, and any solution that doesn't provide it is not as good as one that does.

I completely disagree. Walmart changes oil... That's integration. But they do a shitty job, and I don't trust them compared to me just doing it myself.

    Integration doesn't always beat everything.

For my mom, who has never changed her own oil, she pays someone else to do it (not walmart, thank God). So maybe .mac would be for her. But .mac is certainly not better for me.

I think anyone that actually would use .mac over dreamhost (or a similar service) should not be allowed to use a computer. A basic proficiancy test should be a requirement to own and operate one.

So wait, if someone who is tech - savvy does not want to come home and have to mess with FTP, setting up WebDAV etc uses .Mac he/she is a retard? I doubt that. I work with computers all day, I just want to come home and have things work simply without screwing with it. That is where .Mac comes in. Sure, it might not be the best service when you are talking about features, but it works with the applications in OSX and it allows me to get things done w/o messing with settings and such and opening different applications.

    But, everyone has their opinion.

Well I have a dreamhost account that I use but the idea of iDisk is pretty neat. just because.. i can install the idisk client on my pcs at work and swap .doc or small files fast without forgetting and ftping the shit all the time..

but 1 gig is :wtf:... i mean my yahoo account is 2 gigs i think..

Oh I agree with you on that one. Especially as people's pictures/videos climb in size and in quantity.

It used to be less than 1Gig ;)

.mac does everything i need. if i want to create a quick gallery of my photos to send my brother in alaska. i just do it through iWeb or iPhoto...it optimizes the size for me and then i am done. i love computers but dont want to spend extra time doing simple tasks for coolness sake

edit: learn to spell before you question people's intelligence
